I was commissioned to art direct and curate the Sideshow space alongside a string of exhibitions for the members of Blackhorse Workshop in partnership with the U + I. Transforming an old bus depot in E17, into an events and workshop meanwhile space. Inviting the public to engage with the work and understand the movements the artist makes and why it matters. Not only was this a worthy platform for local creatives, but a refuge for residents and visitors to connect with the area and its heritage. I worked closely with each member, collaborating on a concept, advising and consulting on the works interaction with its key audiences, through to managing each build and de-installation. Whilst keeping the values, identity and interest of the artists at the forefront.
I was commissioned by Create Jobs to mentor a group of young creatives, taking them through the process of designing a set through to completion. This was a 3 week programme where the young creatives worked on a live brief for the Blackhorse Workshop’s presence at Walthamstow Garden Party. Producing a journey around the space of the makers and ending at a Photo Booth. Where the public were invited to bring their makes and get papped with their new body extensions.
The ATOMIC 50 factory in Leyton, London explored the Waltham Forest’s rich past in tin manufacturing and possibilities for a metalworking future. This project celebrated the borough of culture.
Designed for children 7 – 11 years old and their families, they are guided by technical experts to create two tin objects – one to take home and one to add to the amazing artwork being built inside the factory.
Working with renowned artist Abigail Conway and her team, I was asked to run the Tinsmith badge making. My role was the traditional tinsmith, teaching young people and their families how to use basic hand tools with intervals of my old stories and amateur harmonic playing.
